"3 Chords - 1 Story"

You know what? I don't warrant a biog in the Third Person. So, I am Dave. I play punk-folk music alone, but sometimes with other people.

I love, and I mean Love, playing live. I play anywhere and every where. 2008 and will be filled with gigs all over the country, so message me and I'll come play for you and your friends. Beer and a place to sleep is all I ask, oh, and good conversation :)

I write around 3 songs a week, but usually only get happy enough to play one of these. The rest are poetry in effect, but not sissy flowery stuff, more 'Dave's annoyed with something' stuff. Anything that doesn't rhyme is a mini-novel, I stole that from someone, answers on a post-card.

Dave Hughes says:
"Brand new song uploaded! Dancing Two-Step! Written on the run up to my wedding!" (3 days ago) me too!

Al Fucking Baker (PS, Days off are expensive on tour)
Have a wee repost of a message I just sent using 'lists'.

Hey All,

I'm not entirely sure how these list things encroach on your mailbox, but anyways here's a message for those in Inverclyde.

At the end of August and first week of September, I'm going out on tour with one of my all time favourite musicians - Al Baker. He's a political song-writer from Manchester and all round nice bloke.

You can hear his stuff (regardless of if you read the rest of this message) here: www.myspace.com/alandhisguitar

Anyways, why am I stating this? Well, on Friday the 29th of August, we had a show booked but it's fallen through so we're looking to fill it up again. We're playing Glasgow the night before and Paisley the day after, so it would be great to get down to Greenock to do a show.

Most of the gigs on this tour are in people's front rooms ("A voluntary undergound, where a gig's just having friends around" - Al Baker), and so I thought I'd open this up to people in Greenock/Inverclyde too.

We both only use Acoustic guitars and vocals, so no neighbour bothering PA systems. Just us, you, your mates, BYOB and perhaps a 'local' support act to play a few songs? Then pass the hat at the end of the night to get some cash so we can get to our next gig.

If you are interested in this, please reply to this :)

Update and stuff.
While I'm dying of a chest infection, have a wee update of how I'm spending my final hours.

1.acoustic riot compilation
This is coming along nicely, so far have 6 confirmed names on it from all over the UK. I'm waiting till I have 80% or so confirmed before releasing the tracklisting. It's looking to be 15 tracks long.

It's also starting to look abit likt the "most played acoustic tracks" on my MP3 player :D

2. Touring
UK tour is ready, go look at the dates and then come along :) The Europe tour is also back on track, will have more dates for you soon. I found my name on a Danish website today, which was nice.

3.My music

I've worked out I've got a new albums worth of material again, but I'm not gonna put it out just yet. One song in particular is coming along really nicely, and I'll maybe get it recorded for you soon.

I'm also recording a batch of folk songs, traditional and contemporary for a possible release.

Scotch Corner cancelled
Hey all,

I just had two phone calls.

One from Lorraine, who booked me for Scotch Corner on Friday nights. She had been fired and as such didn't know what was going on with the acts that she had booked. She gave me the number of the pub to call up to find out what the score was.

So, I called up the pub to find out and they just called me back there. The reasons given were, I was too young (!), loud and didn't play enough cover songs that people know. Also something about not bringing a crowd along.

Which is all very strange since from the start I said I don't do radio hits and was told that it was fine to do original songs. I can't really do anything about my age, and I like playing loudly ( I guess since he was watching my set he could of asked me to turn down the PA!).

The crowd? Well, i did my best (emails, phone calls, texts, Evening Times article) and it wasn't my fault if more people didn't come along. That said though, out of the 30 or so people in the pub on Friday night, most of them were there to see me. So I hope he enjoys his emptier pub.

Pretty short notice as well it has to be said! The manager said that he enjoyed my set, and liked the direction I was taking the music, but it just wasn't suitable for his pub.

The manager also told me that there was never even the notion of a Residency. Lorraine was told to book an act for Friday nights and the residency thing hadn't even been mentioned to him.

So, if you were going to head along tonight, don't bother. Or better still, head along en masse and ask the bar man where I am.
